The Open Vault is a completely volunteer run unique space located in the heart of downtown Oshawa that assists community members primarily in turning their artistic and socially conscious goals into a reality.
Just over a year ago landlord Zal Press inspired the community to help revitalize the downtown area by opening an art space. Will McGuirk took on the challenge with many others and hosted many wonderful events and worked together.
In March 2014, the group needed new ideas and a fresh perspective to keep the project alive. New management run by a team from DurhamTakesAction.ca decided to open doors to the public, while adding many more regular features. Nicole Nasvytis and Jeremy Smyth (local, radical idealists), thank countless volunteers who helped bring new life to the space.
Now, the inclusive atmosphere welcomes people of all ages to come relax, learn, create, and enjoy their community through the arts . The Open Vault is a not-for -profit which sustains itself through volunteer, as well as those who participate in or contribute to the monthly galleries, studio spaces, workshops, and numerous events.
