We're very excited to announce that Ron Baird, one of Canada’s most successful sculptors has joined Oshawa Space Invaders. Ron has produced over 150 public, corporate, and private commissions in Canada and the UK and has taught at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. The award-winning artist is also the founding director of the Latcham Public Art Gallery.
Ron Baird won a 2011 competition to design and create a sculpture for Oshawa City Hall with his piece Oshawa's Rising Stars.
"There was something in the symbolism of Ron's sculpture that really spoke to us. Ron tied everything together beautifully in one sculpture" said Linda Jansma, curator at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, who was a jury member.
She said the sculpture did not hinge on one aspect of Oshawa's identity, but rather managed to symbolize Oshawa's past, present and future through an ascending arrangement of stars that set it apart from the rest.
